S&P 500 or Nasdaq-100: choose your TickerCanvas canvas

Switch between the S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 in TickerCanvas while keeping a consistent layout and shared market data.

Choose the universe before the layout

The Market index selector changes which companies TickerCanvas displays. Choose S&P 500 for its selection of large US companies across sectors, or Nasdaq-100 for its selection of large non-financial Nasdaq-listed companies. The two indices overlap substantially, but Nasdaq-100 is not a subset of S&P 500.

The current TickerCanvas membership snapshot contains 503 S&P securities and 101 Nasdaq-100 securities. Security counts can exceed the number of companies because an issuer can have more than one included share class. Membership changes over time, so these counts describe this version of the service rather than a permanent rule.

Switch without collecting the same quote twice

TickerCanvas stores the union of the two memberships in one shared snapshot. A company appearing in both views uses the same quote, trading session and change calculation. Selecting a different index reorganizes cached data; it does not ask the provider to collect that company again.

The initial expansion added 15 Nasdaq-only tickers to 503 existing tickers, producing a unique union of 518. That design keeps the data cost tied to the unique securities collected, rather than to the number of views or devices you open.

Compare like with like

Switching the index clears ticker, sector, search and Top N filters so that an old selection does not accidentally hide the new universe. Appearance and sizing choices remain yours. Save separately named views if you want a Nasdaq movers layout and an S&P sector overview.

The summary is an equal-weight average of the displayed companies with comparable changes. It is not the official return of the selected index. Likewise, the market-cap area option uses dated company references and minimum visible sizes, not the exact weighting methodology used by an index provider.

Use each view with a purpose

Try the S&P canvas for a broad sector check and the Nasdaq canvas for a second perspective on its own constituents. Neither is a complete list of all listed stocks. If you cannot find a ticker, first check the selected index and then reset filters. A ticker absent from both supported memberships cannot be added merely by typing its symbol into a custom selection.
