Supermicro's Revenue Nearly Quadruples to $19.95 Billion, but Gross Margin Slides From June
Supermicro reported nearly $19.95 billion in fiscal Q1 2027 sales, almost four times the year-earlier figure, and raised its annual sales outlook. But its 12.7% GAAP gross margin was below the prior quarter's 17.5%, while operating activities used $434 million in cash.

Super Micro Computer reported a near-quadrupling of quarterly revenue as demand for AI data-center equipment accelerated. The eye-catching sales number came with a more complicated profitability picture: gross margin improved from a year earlier but fell sharply from the immediately preceding quarter.
Almost four times the sales in one year
On November 3, 2026, Supermicro released preliminary, unaudited results for the first quarter of its fiscal 2027, which ended September 30, 2026. The company warned that its quarter-end close is incomplete and the final financial statements may differ. Net sales reached $19.946 billion, compared with $5.018 billion in the year-earlier quarter and approximately $11.1 billion in the June 2026 quarter. The year-over-year comparison is roughly fourfold; it is not a fourfold increase from the previous quarter.
The results also exceeded the company's October 20 preliminary sales range of $18.5 billion to $19.5 billion. Reuters reported that revenue topped an LSEG-compiled analyst estimate of $16.39 billion. That consensus comparison comes from Reuters, not from a company-issued forecast.
GAAP net income reached approximately $1.594 billion, versus $168 million a year earlier. GAAP diluted earnings per share were $1.75, while the company's separately reported non-GAAP diluted EPS was $1.81. The two EPS figures use different accounting definitions and should not be treated as interchangeable.
The margin contrast behind the AI boom
Supermicro's GAAP gross margin was 12.7%, up from 9.3% in the September 2025 quarter but down from 17.5% in the June 2026 quarter. That sequential decline of 4.8 percentage points means the latest sales acceleration did not translate into a consistently rising gross profit percentage. Management's release does not by itself establish whether the lower sequential margin will persist.
Operating activities used $434 million in cash during the September quarter despite the reported GAAP profit. Profit and operating cash flow measure different things, and a single quarter does not establish a durable cash-generation trend. As of September 30, the company reported $6.9 billion in cash and equivalents and $8.6 billion in bank debt and convertible notes.
Guidance rises, with execution still to prove
Supermicro forecast $19.5 billion to $21.5 billion in net sales for its fiscal second quarter ending December 31, 2026, with GAAP diluted EPS of $1.59 to $1.83 and non-GAAP diluted EPS of $1.66 to $1.90. For its full fiscal 2027, management now expects $72 billion to $82 billion of revenue, above its previous $65 billion to $72 billion range. These are projections, not earned revenue.
The company attributes the demand backdrop to larger AI infrastructure deployments and its expanding range of data-center solutions. Independent Reuters reporting also notes that the company has faced scrutiny around financial controls and export-compliance issues; those risks should not be erased by a strong quarter.
Supermicro is an S&P 500 constituent, added effective March 18, 2024, and included in TickerCanvas's cached index universe as of November 3, 2026. The report offers a concrete way to assess the AI infrastructure cycle: investors can watch both the speed of server sales and how much profit and cash those sales ultimately generate. It does not establish a future share-price or index move.
